How we are responding to COVID-19

Personal Protective Equipment

We have spent the last two weeks designing and testing face shield designs to help protect healthcare workers on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19 and those providing essential public and social services.

Face Shield - M

Our first design is inspired by other efforts in the community, but ensure that there are absolutely no gaps on the front of the shield and the top over the forehead is covered to prevent droplets from getting on the users face. This design is more suitable for reuse than our S design.

 
 
 

Face Shield - S

Our second design doesn’t actually use any 3D printed parts and is extremely fast and cost effective to produce while offering essentially the same functionality of the M design. This design is similar to the single use face shields already in use by the medical industry

 

We are NOT trying to profit from PPE production, the cost simply aims to cover materials and production costs (labor). If you are in need of PPE you can place an order here. The designs are Open Source (design files linked further down in the email).

How we limit exposure during manufacturing

  • 3D printed parts are printed at higher than normal temperatures.

  • The clear plastic foil is sent to the end-user with the protective film left on.

  • All parts are removed by a worker wearing gloves and protective face gear as soon as the machines finish and the parts are placed immediately into a Ziploc bag and sealed.

  • Bagged face shields are stored in a closed container until they are ready to be distributed.

  • When packing for distribution packers wear gloves and protective face gear.

  • Shields are shipped disassembled to be assembled by the end-user to minimize unnecessary exposure at our facility.

  • In addition, employees undergo regular hand-washing and our facility is being cleaned more frequently in high use areas.
